Cannabidiol (CBD) is becoming one of the most widely used cannabinoids due to its wide variety of complementary and therapeutic applications. As science continues to discover the response of the endocannabinoid system to CBD and other cannabinoids, new applications of CBD as a skin treatment are emerging. CBD has several benefits as an ingredient in various dermatological products, such as its ability to support the skin’s natural defenses.

CBD for the skin

How does CBD affect the skin? The answer is many, as cannabidiol offers a range of benefits for both healthy and damaged skin. Some areas of study regarding effects of CBD have already been explored, while others are just beginning to come to light.

Anti-inflammatory properties

One aspect that science unanimously supports is the anti-inflammatory function of CBD. Many studies support this claim, such as the 2010 study that found CBD suppresses inflammatory cytokines and chemokines.

What does all this have to do with the skin? Virtually all dermatological conditions, from skin irritation to more serious skin conditions, are caused or aggravated by inflammation. CBD has incredible potential to reduce the inflammatory response of the skin and soothe affected areas. CBD is increasingly being used as an ingredient in creams, given its enormous topical or oral potential.

The anti-inflammatory effects of CBD in combating conditions such aseczema and psoriasis have only recently been discovered. CBD blocks interleukins and prevents the formation of psoriasis plaques.

Promotes cell proliferation

Another area where CBD shows promise is its nourishing effect on the skin by promoting proper cell proliferation and differentiation. CBD’s strong antioxidant properties surpass those of its competitors, and it is now also used in anti-aging creams. For people with certain skin conditions, CBD may be particularly helpful in promoting more effective cell differentiation.

Inhibits the hyperactivity of the sebaceous glands

One of the main triggers of acne is excessive sebum production. A recent study found that CBD has a “trilogy of cellular anti-acne properties,” including its ability to reduce sebum production. In summary, the anti-proliferative character of CBD on sebocytes limits the production of lipids and therefore the overproduction of sebum.

The potential applications of CBD to combat the symptoms of acne are extremely interesting, as it is one of the most common skin conditions in the world. Acne causes physical symptoms in the form of pimples, blackheads and cysts, but it can also have serious psychological consequences.

CBD is also considered an antibacterial substance. Acne-causing bacteria contribute to a series of breakouts that can be difficult to control, but CBD can reduce both infection and inflammation.

CBD and the future of skin care

The more CBD is studied as a skin care substance, the greater its potential as a treatment for many skin conditions appears to be. It’s still too early to say exactly how CBD can be used in medical treatments, but there are at least clear indications of its many benefits for the skin.

Cannabis contains more than 500 components. The most important are THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol), which belong to the cannabinoid group. Unlike THC, CBD has no psychoactive effects, but has great medicinal potential. This is one of the reasons why we have seen a real boom in CBD in recent years. The volume of research on CBD and its medicinal benefits is growing. As a result, there is a clearer picture of how CBD can be used as a therapeutic agent in the treatment of various diseases and disorders.

CBD has a wide range of medicinal benefits

The number of uses for CBD as a drug continues to grow to the point where we have almost never encountered such a versatile substance. To date, the pharmaceutical industry has not yet developed a single drug with as many applications as CBD.

CBD is known for its anti-emetic, anti-psychotic, anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, tumor-inhibiting, anti-anxiety and anti-depressant properties. Some of these properties have been studied extensively, while others are still in the early stages of research.

As we’ve explained, CBD has come under scrutiny as a treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. However, many people simply use CBD as a dietary supplement because of the wide range of physiological effects it has, even in the absence of disease. Some of the other therapeutic properties of CBD include:

Anti-inflammatory ;

Antioxidant ;

Neuroprotective ;

Anti-emetic ;

Sleep aid

Basically, these properties can be taken into account to improve the quality of life, especially for patients suffering from chronic diseases. It is often underestimated how much a good night’s sleep and increased appetite can improve the health of a chronic disease patient, which is why CBD is often used to supplement traditional treatment lines.

And the search continues…

Cannabis use is now a public health issue. Its use for medicinal purposes is growing all over the world.

Themedical use of cannabis can refer to a wide variety of drugs, preparations and products containing different active ingredients, in different concentrations, and used by different routes of administration. Each of these factors has a significant impact with consequences for human health.

Although some studies are known on its therapeutic use to treat various pathologies (such as intractable epilepsy, Tourette’s syndrome, multiple sclerosis, sleep and anxiety disorders, chronic pain, lack of appetite, etc.), extensive scientific research is needed to help elucidate the therapeutic effects of individual cannabis-derived compounds.

Their interactions, as well as the potential for abuse and short- and long-term adverse health consequences after prolonged administration, are also being investigated. Although the medical use of the preparations
 derived from the plant Cannabis Sativa L
. has a long history, the decades-long ban on its use has delayed medical and scientific advances in this field.
